  • Our Christmas Party

    We all sing along

We all had a brilliant time, volunteers and party-goers alike. Our catering team were outstanding, seamlessly producing non-stop cuppas and delicious food throughout the afternoon. This year we had an old-time sing-along as well as traditional Christmas carols, thanks to the Minister David Innes on keyboard and his wife Dorothy on guitar - we also had our very own Sugar Plum Fairy giving out the party bags!

  • The AGM

We were sorry to say goodbye to Chris Harle who has been a valuable member of the committee these past eleven years, he is stepping down for family reasons but is still acting for the Group in an advisory role.

We welcomed two new Trustees, Donald McIntosh and Sandra McIntosh, we are thrilled to have them on the Committee.

  • Pub Lunch & Bell Ringing

We first went to the Bell Pub opposite St. Mary’s Church in Molesey for lunch and we all agreed that the food was great as was the service. 3 courses for £8.00 is so unbelievable!

After lunch we crossed the road and went into the church where Jane gave us an interesting talk about Campanology (yes, bell ringing). There are 8 bells in St. Mary’s bell tower which, of course, you can’t actually see. So Jane had a wooden model showing how the bells hung and how they moved when rung. There were six ringers and they rung several different peels so we could hear the different sounds they make. It is fascinating to learn about something we hear often and don’t really understand what is involved.

We then left for home and everyone agreed it had been a great trip.

It’s only one morning a month, but more if you want …….

  • Holly Lodge

We had a wonderful time in the the Holly Lodge school room. There was a pictorial display taking us from Queen Victoria to our present queen bringing a flood of memories also prompted by a few seemingly random objects from the last century, a sieve, a trifle mold, a stone hot water bottle; it’s amazing how a few simple objects and pictures can evoke a common memory and bring people so much closer. We then discussed the language of fans - some quite flirtatious signals were revealed! It was all hugely enjoyable and nicely rounded off with tea and biscuits.

  • A generous bequest

One of our delightful clients sadly died a few weeks ago. A lady who took a keen interest in the everyday workings of THWVCG, she came to every AGM and her input was much valued by us all. Never did we expect this particular input though! An amazingly generous share of her estate - oh how we bless her for that.

She was always very appreciative of our care; now her typical thoughtfulness ensures that we can continue to be independent of council funding, schemes and wide ‘umbrellas’. We can remain totally local and continue to help and support all our delightful clients.
