Musical Museum
Musical Museum, Brentford.
12 June 2012
On Tuesday about 17 of us went to the Musical Museum in Brentford. It was a new venue for us so we really didn't know what to expect. Well, what a wonderful surprise. It is a purpose-built museum, housing a comprehensive collection of automatic musical instruments. We were given a talk and demonstrations of almost all the intruments - player pianos, pianolas, barrel organs, musical boxes, violin players, wind-up gramophones and the astounding German Clarabella complete with lighting effects.
Whilst we sipped tea in the cinema room, our guide entertained us on the mighty Wurlitzer - from The Regal cinema in Kinsgton - and finally we watched, yes, watched Rachmaninov play "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" on a "Reproducing Piano", Astounding!
The volunteers at the museum could not have been more helpful and considerate, ensuring we had a memorable and delightful afternoon. We will definately do this again.
