The Boat Trip

2017-07-25c-Boat trip
25th July

What a perfect day for a boat trip. It was sunny but not too hot with a lovely warm breeze. The river was looking its very best ...... so did we as we chugged down stream to Richmond.

It's funny how aches and pains and disabilities are overcome when fish and chips are in the offing, we went up that cobbled hill from river to restaurant without complaint!

It is our third year doing this outing and it seems
to get better each time. The fish and chips at the "Quality Fish Restaurant" was top notch as always and the service most friendly.

Elizabeth took this picture in the boat.

Teddington Village Fair & Pram Race

25th June

We don't sit still for long, no sooner was the "Hampton Wick Big Picnic" over than we started to prepare for "The Teddington Fair". This is the first year we've had our stall here. By the time we had mastered our rickety canopy a group of eager young things had appeared to try their luck at the Hoopla. Whilst they threw hoops we handed out leaflets and chatted to the older generations. We recruited one or two new volunteers as well as a few more clients ....... and lots of children won lots of prizes.

It is unseemly to crow, I know, but -

2017-06-25-Pram Race03

Our fantastic team, Ali Fox (old lady), Jules Palmer, Grace Palmiere and Ann Brown were fleet of foot and robust of muscle. It is actually quite a challenging race, the pushers must have stamina & strength whilst anticipating every bump in the road, the pushee should have nerves of steel, a grip of iron - and a sense of humour.

Not only did we have the satisfaction of winning, we also received a prize of £50 generously donated by Nitesh at KC pharmacy. This money means a lot to us, we don't go to these events to make a profit, it is really an awareness excercise, but we are self-funded so any cash that comes our way is hugely appreciated. Who knows, in a year or two we might be able to up-grade our canopy.

Chestnut Sunday, May 2017

It was a beautiful day, just perfect. The crowds were out ready to enjoy themselves. Graham, Sara, Mary and Eva set up our little marquee and were joined by Jules later. The whole stand was gloriously orange and fluttery in the breeze, it attracted a steady stream of interest. Sally and Geoff were on the Teddington Society stand next door so and kindly took photos..... a lovely one of Tania tentatively holding a THWVCG flag. We are extremely grateful for her support, in spite of the colour!

Our Hoop-la stand was as popular as ever, all the prizes went to eager hands. We have now re-stocked in preparation for the Hampton Wick Big Picnic this Sunday 11th June. on the King's Field. Do come, bring a picnic and let's hope for equally glorious weather.

Isabella Plantation

 25th April

There were at least 25 of us on the trip to Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park, and what a sensory delight awaited us .... the sight and scent of the azalias, rhodedendrons and - surprisingly - the heather, was stunning. It was an absolute joy to wander through the gardens and the weather was particularly kind to us.

We then went to Pembroke Lodge for tea and must thank all the staff there for making it all so easy. We were given a room so we didn't have to fight for tables - or get lost! - we could just relax, chat and appreciate a great day out.

I do hope we can do the same next year, we have had most appreciative feedback which really does put the icing on the cake.

The office and other news

2017-04-12-new office

12th April 2017

We now have a 'Voluntary Care' sign on the outside door to our office and a lovely Indian Limestone path, this is a photo of the progress so far. When the rest of the area is paved we will get a couple or more large potted plants. It's going to look great.

We have finalised our Summer Programme of Events, so do click on Events/Event Diary to find out more; the first up is The Isabella Plantation on 25th April, let's hope for warm weather to really bring out the scent of those glorious azalias.

We will have our stand in Bushy Park on Chestnut Sunday - 14th May - Do come and see us & find out what we do; maybe you need some help or would like to become a volunteer - or just want a shot at the hoop-la!
